It's just a little bit heartbreaking.

He doesn't speak to her. Doesn't speak to anyone. Afraid to speak; because speaking means accepting that it happened. Afraid to get too close in case the same thing happens again.

And she understands why. She sympathises with him. Sympathises; but doesn't empathise. Can't empathise.

She lost her husband. Lucas watched his father die. Watched him disappear into the icy depths of the lake.

He just sits there. Drawing pictures. Pictures she doesn't understand. Pictures she can't empathise with.

And to see him sitting there, suffering in silence...

That's just a little bit heartbreaking.
